OCAPH’s mission as an indigenous civil society organization based in Port-au-Prince is to advocate for Haitian people’s right to a government that truly serves their needs. We believe that sustainable change comes about only when people are empowered to solve their own problems.
We partner with other grassroots organizations to achieve stronger civic engagement both in our urban and rural communities. Our issues include decentralizing power; broadening citizen activism, especially among those historically marginalized; increasing transparency; providing education and training; and mobilizing citizens to themselves monitor elections and other issues affecting Haiti and the diaspora.
Our goal is to enable communities themselves to hold their elected officials accountable.
